No.I need some advice from the more experienced amongst you. I have been asked by my "better half" to buy her a cheap point & shoot camera for Christmas. Should I buy her a K5?
Do what she asks. She won't thank you for getting her a K-5, and repeatedly grabbing it from her when she shows signs of wanting to use it as a P&S.
Buy her a moderately expensive compact (not a cheap P&S), and me a K-5.
Merry Christmas to you too!

I have a Sony DSC T900. Very discrete and is pretty much P&S. Cost me about £90
I keep it in my pocket for when I haven't got my DSLR or a DSLR would be too obstrusive.

Clearly you need advice in marriage as well as photography
I'd go with John's suggestion but in white with the matching white leather case and strap.

Ah, I forgot to mention - the most important attribute of this camera is that it has to be pink.

PINK!!!
Why oh why oh why?
She'll probably only take about 10 photos a year and it'll live in a cupboard for the rest of the time. If I got her a K5, I could "store" it in my camera bag instead. PINK!!!

I don't understand the obsession with pink. I hate pink. All the little girls around now seem compelled to wear Barbie pink and have every toy in similar tones.
Maybe once having had red hair (now dark chestnut and grey) has something to do with my dislike of the colour.
If my other half gave me something pink I'd be very disappointed.
Ah well à chacun son goût.
Good luck with finding her a pink camera - there are lots out there, and nowadays there are very few duff compacts.
