I agree with the Welsh maestro: levels would sort these out a lot. I took the liberty of playing with one:

Hope you don't mind.

Not much work involved there Andrew and it's given a bit more character to the original.
Nice to see somebody else is still using film Backhouse, do you develop your own and if so how easy is the Adox to use?

I don;t mind at all Andrew, if the unmolested pic was that precious I wouldn't be posting it on a forum! I had a little pay before checking back after reading Gareth's comment and thinking 'yes they do look a little grey and washed out' and did these, your thoughts?

Yep, still using film, I bought into the digital thing (could never afford to process enough as a kid to get the hang of it) to rattle off a lot of pics and learn, then found my machinegunning technique left me with a LOT of pics to PP, so I bought a Pentax Spotmatic F to slow me down a bit. then an ESII (the lovely spot is in the classifieds if anyone wants a clean reliable 35mm) because it looked cool and I found the spot very tricky for low light stuff. I'm now amassing a range of nice lenses for it SMC 28,35,50,105,135,200mm so far!
The Adox is not bad, its cheap enough for certain, very succeptable to fogging, I loaded it on the spiral just in the darkroom, no changin bag and I have the tinyest light leak around the door, this was enough to fog the centre of the film while loading, but not that much. it develops very nicely though, I will probably use it again (well I have a roll of iso25 in the camera now), supposed to be a very soft/delicate emulsion but I managed not to damage it and its only the second film I've dev'd.
But yet I have set myself up to develop enlarge/print and scan myself, the whole lot has cost me less than £100 including a minolta proper 35mm slide/neg scanner, which those top ones are straight out of the scanner.

These have more punch, certainly. I really admire the fact that you're getting so much out of film still. The various Spotmatics were my dream cameras whilst growing up, but I've never owned one. They're still, to my mind, the best looking cameras ever produced.
That film seems quite grainy, which gives shots a very distinctive appearance, a bit as I remember HP5 looking. Keep at it and good luck: your results are bound to improve with practice.

Just ordered some Formapan 400 and 100 to try, one roll of 35mm and 4 of 120, someone is lending me a Pentax 67 to play with
Its funny the prints I did (optical enlargements) have much more punch and contrast, I'll bung one under the flatbed scanner at work tomorrow and see if I can post it up.
Andrew, buy a spotty and some film, they are great fun to use, I've seen developing tanks go for under a fiver on ebay and chemicals are not expensive, my enlarger was given to me from another forum and I had offers of others from other members, plenty of free and seriously cheap film stuff out there.
