Can't download my pics

I'm not sure what has gone wrong here but I've got problems in saving pictures, in that I can't do it and they are stuck in my memory card. When I connect the camera up it won't download anything. Instead, as soon as I switch it on I get a small green icon in the bottom right of my pc and when I click on that, it says "Safely remove USB mass storage device - Drive E:" If I turn the camera off or disconnect it, the icon goes. I've got a K10d which I used to take the pictures so I tried putting the card in my other camera, an original K100D and that gave the same result. Any ideas, please? I'm just used to connecting up and downloading with no problems until now.

Connect again, switch camera on, go to windows explorer check that drive E: is there, if it is click on the drive letter and your folder should come up.
Make sure the battery is not low in the camera.

Have you tried accessing the camera through 'my computer' it should show as a drive?

Try copying the files to the hard drive rather than moving them.

If that works format the card in the camera using the camera menu. then see if it's back to normal

Don't format the card until you download the photos or you will lose them

Try using a card reader to see if that works, if it does then go back to the camera and try again. I only ever use a card reader and always format the card in the camera.

Thanks, I've found my pics in drive E although it's not something I've used before so how they got there is a mystery. I'm used to plugging in and being given a choice of what to do and I would normally use a disk or Picasa. If anyone knows how I can undo this drive E-business so I can go back to what I'm used to then I would be grateful.

You can't undo Drive E because when connected to the computer the camera is allocated a drive letter - in this case E. Just like your hard drive is usually C.

The easiest thing to do is use a card reader, which is cheap, quick and reliable. If it's a multi-slot reader, each slot will also be allocated a drive letter.

They've always been there your camera is a device and all devices have drive letters, are you using xp or vista it's easy to fix, go to control panel and click on autoplay and tell it in the options what you want to do i.e. when you put in a cd play automaticly it's the same for you camera or card reader, I'm going to bed now as it's 01.15 in Spain good luck.
