Looks like Marchantia polymorpha - one of the Liver Worts.

I was asked to photograph it, apparently it's quite uncommon where we are. The description was "looks like small palm trees" I remember a name ending in Wort, but it just sounded like a German sausage to me

One of the few plant families to produce fully mobile sperm! This is why these plants like damp places - the sperm needs a film of water to swim in. Sorry, getting a bit Gardener's Question Time...
