As far as I know there is no total frame counter that is accesible to us mere mortals. There may well of course be a clever piece of Pentax test gear that can reveal this info. Even if there were, it would not provide information relating to frames between a range of dates, only the total frames shot from new.
It would be interesting to know why this information is important to you, after all, there are very few film cameras that can provide any similar info.
I can understand that it might be important when buying used equipment to know how much use/abuse it's had.
You could always count the images you have saved then guesstimate the number you have deleted.

If you have it set correctly in the menu then it will give you the total number of photos made as your file name - it is set as standard to do that so it doesn't reset when you change cards. This assumes you had the camera new of course. Mine is at 3253 after about 18 months, but I haven't used it that much until recently.

The file tab in my menu just says "serial number" next to it - no figures. I was actually asking as I am thinking of buying a used one for my son to learn with- but it will have to last him.[/i]

But thatserial number is the total number of photos taken. The file number of the photo for instance IMGP2156.JPG shows 2156 is the total number of photos taken. That is the only way to see how many have been taken with it - you will have to test a potential camera and when you review the photo in the lcd screen in the top right hand corner it will give the image number - that is the total number taken with it, unless the seller pressed reset. Or download the file and see the number on your computer. If the seller has pressed reset ask yourself why?

The problem is that the counter resets at 10,000, so you don't know if the camera has taken 10,000 or 60,000 pictures; or 160,000.
