Can I use this lens for macro

I have a Vivitar 75-205mm 1:3.8 macro focusing zoom for my old Canon A1.
It is in new condition. Virtually unused. Can I use it with my K10d and if so will it give really close up images or should I bin it and buy a proper lens?

If it's a Canon FD mount then it won't fit on the K10D. If it's an M42 with Canon adaptor (unlikely) then it'd fit with an M42 to K mount adaptor.

The lens has a pretty good reputation however if you're interested in macro primarily then a dedicated macro lens is likely to be significantly better. I've been using an old Vivitar 55mm F2.8 macro in Pentax K mount that I got from EBay cheap and the results have been quite decent.

Niblue,

On the Canon it seems to give pictures that should be closer. The focus only works from about 1 metre. Is this because it is not a true macro? Should I look for 1:1?
