Can I use optio as a divx movie player?

As the optio S6/S7 can create VGA DivX movies at 30fps, can it playback divx movies from other non-optio sources?

No it can't. But, as you have rightly said, you can record a DivX file and put the SD card into a DivX Certified player and it should work straight away. Toshiba do a good small player that accepts SD cards.
