Hi Biggav, welcome to Pentax and the forum.
I think the flashing 'F' is because the camera can't set or read the lens aperture. If your lens has an 'A' (auto aperture) position on it's aperture scale set the lens to that 'A' position and it should now work.
If you have an older lens that has not got an 'A' position and the associated electric contacts then you should still be able to use it. Set the lens to the aperture you wish to use and the camera mode to manual and again it should be working. With this older lens type you should also be able to use AV or aperture priority mode but may have to enable this within the setup menu first - check if your lens has an 'A' position and let us know first though.

You can download the K10D manual as a pdf file from the Ricoh web site -

Good advice above
I use a few manual lenses - they work well with the K10d - remember to set the af on the switch next to the lens to mf other wise the shutter will not fire unless the camera's central af point is in focus as such

all I can add to the above is that there is no such thing as silly question on here (or I'd be stuck for starters) and welcome. Look forward to seeing your photos in the gallery!

PS if you want to see what others think of old lenses on Pentax I find the following site very useful http://www.pentaxforums.com/userreviews/
