can anyone recommend a good photoshop cs2 book?

I have a copy of photoshop cs2 and to be honest its overwhelming - I have the scott kelby book but i dont really get on with it because if you dont want do do exactly what he describes there is no answer - (e.g. i want to replace a background) - i have also got martin evenings book and i think I am going to have to start going through it but its massive - anyone got any other favourates before i start reading martin evenings adobe photoshop for photographers ? especialy ones for beginners

Learning it out of a book isn't the best way I believe.
Why not follow a course to get you started?

there are also enough video tutorials on the net which might be helpful.

Why not try Google, all of the answers are out there.You will need to check out extracting from background as well.

I am getting in to the Martin evening book at the mo and learing my way around the interface - so far so good but your'e right google will probobly reveal some very useful results

getting the books for starts is good... but here's a practical tip for learning:
many tools in photoshop have sliders... try moving the sliders from one extreme to the other and look for results. it gets easier to understand what the tool does that way....

I originally bought the Scott Kelby, but like you, found it somewhat limiting. I then bought the Martin Evening, and like you, found it a bit intense. Give the Martin Evening a chance, it does take a lot of reading, but once you've started to get your head around it, it will be indispensable.

Yes i think you are right - I also have one by Bruce fraser on camera raw which is proving to be good reading
