Most UK companies won't cover you if you are permanently resident in Spain.
If you are a subscriber to PU magazine I believe you can get insurance through them.
I found a really good deal here in the Netherlands insuring my gear through the television company - I get the same coverage as they get for their seriously expensive gear, and it means mine is also covered if I have to check it when flying for instance.
Some local photographic organisations offer insurance to members.
Read the conditions of any insurance carefully before accepting it - some exclude theft from hotel rooms or cars for instance, or even from a camera bag whilst you are taking photos, very few cover theft/damage if you have checked your gear when flying and when it comes down to it some (most?) aren't worth the paper they are written on.

An All Risks extension to your Home Contents insurance can be very cost effective.
