Expect to be buying another camera & lens soon and am wondering about insurance for theft & accidental damage. The last camera I bought was from Jessops and the "extended warranty" I was offered covered for accidental damage (just as well to ). What other companies offer this sort of "in House" deals through a third party or any recommendations for insurance "theft & accidental damage .

Have a look at your contents insurance Stan. You can often add valuables to that or they may already be covered.

I'm not familiar with British insurers but PU have Glover and Howe listed under Shop. https://www.pentaxuser.com/insurance

I can speak highly for photoguard. Settled my claim for accidental damage to my K-X. Premium was cheaper than excess on our contents insurance. With nil excess on their policy. Covered outside the home anywhere in the uk. (My K-x ended up in a river in Scotland)

I think one of the problems I may have is that I have had a claim for accidental damage on the K7. I was considering Jessops again for my next purchase but the two "nearest" stores for collect in store were Leeds and Edinburgh I popped into Jessops Aberdeen this morning but they said they could order one a K5 (they said they didn't really do Pentax)and hadn't even heard of the forthcoming K-30 so it looks like Watford or Bristol mail order

As daft as it might sound, most insurers will only cover against theft and/or accidental damage if it occurs within the home - absolutely useless if you happen to have your gear nicked on an overseas trip!! Some insurers will offer additional cover for such eventualities, but it pays to shop around, as the add-ins for cover abroad tend to get loaded in favour of the insurers in the event of theft or damage. Like Gwyn said, have a look at Glover & Howe.

I'm really lucky with my insurance as it has exactly the same T&C as TV companies get for their gear.
It covers pretty much everything, including stuff being pinched from a car or hotel room anywhere in the world stuff taken from my bag while I am busy taking photos, and even theft, loss or damage if I have to check my gear when flying.

My contents insurance is for £2000 (loss/theft/acidental damage/riot/etc) anywhere in the world. It cost an £22 extra when asked for, as it wasn't included as standard. So 10 yards from home was as bad as New Zealand and we nearly all go more than 10 yards from home.

I only found out because I'd had telephone pestering about credit card insurance so when I asked the bank I found that they had already had that covered. So I started thinking about what I had assumed to be covered then asking about other cover.

Same here except it was my K10d. Seems very good value.

I just had a claim for my Pentax 16-45 zoom, which was damaged when i dropped my K5 after the strap caught on a table. Ok it was in the home so my contents insurance covered it, (will cover away from home too for upto 60 days at a time). But to be fair to NFU they collected the lens within a couple of days had it tested again with in a couple of days and called me today to say they were replacing it.
I had to pay £25 excess and they have ordered a Pentax 17-70mm from Jessops as a replacement, with out any fuss which will be delivered next day or so.

So check your contents policy and see how much more cover you actually need.
