Camera Bag for skiing - waterproof and easy access

Having just bought a K20d i'm looking forward to being able to take it out on the hills with me. This will be skiing and mountain biking. I won't take it all the time as i'd be scared of damaging it or it just being too big and get in the way, but i'll no doubt take it on certain days when the weather looks good and i'll be able to hold myself back a bit knowing that i've got my slr with me...

so, i'm after a camera bag that would be easy to access when on the slopes/trails - it would be good if i didn't have to keep taking it off my back completely to get to the camera. And waterproofness is a must.

Any recommendations out there?

Have a look at the Lowepro Slingshot range.

Hi PeterMac,

I have similar requirements and have narrowed my search down to the Lowepro Fastpack 250 or 350. The 350 has sternum and waist belts (not on the 250) to keep the backpack tight against your body, ideal when cycling and walking long distance. The Fastpack can be unstrapped and then rotated to the front for easy access to camera. See the Lowepro website for the video. Current price is about £52 for the Fastpack 250 and £62 for the 350.

I second that. A particular advantage is the tucked away waist strap that I dont use at all, but secures the bag tightly to your body. The slingshot is the best walkabout bag I've used too and the waterproof cover is useful on beaches for keeping out sand as well as in wet conditions.

I've just been recommended the Dakine Sequence pack on the ski forum i use.

looks ideal and i'll probably go with that one as it's got ski carrying ability as well!

Thanks for the feedback though, much appreciated.

pelican case, inside a regular backpack. water proof, weather proof, shock proof. your camera will survive even if you don't.
warrentied for life and guarenteed to survive anything except shark bite, grizzly attack or 5yr old child.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
