Camera bag

Hi,

I recently acquired a 150-500mm Lil' Bigma. The problem I'm having at the moment is that it's too big to fit into my usual camera backpack (Tamrac Adventure 7). I knew this beforehand, but I'm trying to decide what would be the best bag to suit longer and heavier lenses such as the bigma.

Any suggestions?
It doesn't need to be a backpack.

Could always try a lens case. Mine lives in Lowepro case (a 5?) and can be attached to the outside of any of my various packs as required. Bit too big for the belt option.

I have a Loewpro Flipside 400AW. It will take the 150-500 (similar size to the Bigma) on or off the camera plus the DA* 300 and some other lenses. Comfortable enough to wear all day.

The Flipside looks like a good option. I'll check to see what hte going price for them is over here.

Tamrac Velocity 10, I can put my K-r mounted with the 150-500mm in that slingbag. Easier to get the camera out of the bag (and in) also. Also room for 1 more camera or a few lenses (3 or 4).

That's exactly what I'd need. A K-r with the 150-500mm attached. Any chance I could fit a 70-200 f2.8 Tamron in there as well?

I have the Tamrac Expedition 5 backpack, which fits the Bigma proper easily.

One thing to be wary of, don't leave your bigma attached to the camera in the bag. There have been cases of people finding the lens still attached to the mount but with the mount broken away from the camera!

Thanks for more feedback. Can anyone confirm though if I can fit both the Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 and the Bigma in one backpack (either Expedition 5 or Velocity 10).

@greynolds999: thanks for the tip. I have heard the same horror stories and take it off right after being done with it.

I carry the 60-250 and the Bigma in my Expedition 5 on occasion, along with the 17-70 and 50-135, and a flash. It is an extremely flexible bag with regard to lenses and stuff you can fit in it.

K20,DA 12-24, DFA 100 macro, DA 55-300, f1.7xaf teleconvertor,Sigma 150-500,Tamron 24-200, + spare batteries,filters and holders.
A really good bag .

I have about 9 lenses in my Expedition 5, and as quite a few are old Pentax or Tokina, it's almost too heavy to carry. The bag itself is quite deep, so most mid-range lenses can be stored vertically into the horizontal bag (if that makes sense). As you can see in the linked photo, some lenses are physically long - the Sig 70-300 is 145mm long, and comfortably fits in the bag, end-wise. The Tokina 80-400 is about 150mm long x 80mm diameter, and is a comfy fit on the front of the K100D super. There's another 130mm of length left in the bag, so if the Bigma is 280mm in length or less, it should fit easily.
