what did you calibrate with?
and yeah they will never look the same.... took me a while to adjust to the flat panels when I moved up from my emac to the imac, but the flat panels we use now are just plain better all across the board...

Spyder 3 elite, it does have a studio match function but that just match the settings where they calibrate with but those are already the same.
The colours do look almost the same though but the LCD looks more brilliant.

Which OS?
Windows 7 may be able to handle that without having two independent video cards.
Windows XP defnitely cannot. Even with the color power toy, allowing calibration of two monitors, the color will only hold for a few hours, then go wonky again.
Most likely it is the monitors, like Don said the two will likely never match exactly.
You're going to need to tune that LCD brightness down to, I believe 60-80, to match the CRT. (I think it was on "The Grid Live" podcast - er, um maybe Techzilla??, anyway, they just mentioned this sort of issue with brightness differences even though calibration is otherwise "equal").
The software probably puts the LCD at 100-120 by default. LCDs by from the factory are probably more around 200, i.e. excessively bright.
I set my iMac down to about 100 and the other LCD monitor to about 110 and the match is almost exact.
If the LCD is TFT, you're likely not to get color accuracy. But you seem to have that covered.

Brightness for both are set to 125 that is 32% of the EIZO and 75% of the LCD.You're going to need to tune that LCD brightness down to, I believe 60-80, to match the CRT. The Spyder3 does a check of the luminance of the surroundings and adapt for that.
So brightness are the same, kelvins are the same and both calibrated by the same device and in the same lighting.

I think you mean the type of pattern of the screen.
TN are no good but in the Eizo sit a S-PVA.

Even if you can get your LCD down that far (which is a big if), such a low luminance will almost certainly give you a nasty calibration headache.

I had to dial my samsung monitots wayy down before I could get them to calibrate with the Huey.
seems samsung sets the brightnes up as high as possible for marketing purposes, but for practical uses it was too bright.

I've had much the same experience in the last couple of weeks with two LCD monitors.
I'd been using a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW for some time, which is a 1680x1050 that I've been very happy with, but I had the chance to snap up an almost new LG Flatron E2240 for 60 quid. This is 1920x1080, and it's now my main monitor for work.
They're set up side by side, with Windows 7, and I've calibrated them both with a Huey Pro.
The calibration is better than nothing - but the two monitors are nowhere near the same, and I'm now left with no idea which one to look at when I'm editing photos.
The other thing that's mildly annoying is that each morning, if I've switched the monitors off overnight as I usually do, I have to reapply the saved calibration, since for some reason, it loses it from both monitors (even though the Huey software thinks the calibration is still 'on'). It never needed this when I had just the one monitor.
I would say, though, that having two monitors for work is wonderful. I'm now thinking of getting a cheap second graphics card off the 'bay and getting a third one!

Stefan, You'll never match a CRT to an LCD. Matching 2 LCD's could be hard as there are so many different types available. But CRT to LCD no way. When LCD's started to become plentiful for business use - but still not for graphics work - I was working for a monitor company (CRT's). We had all the engineers working on it, but even with high end LCD's there was no way they could get them to look the same and still be usable, calibrated, etc. And they were adjusting way more settings than a typical user would ever be able to access.
I took a long time to switch to LCD's - almost too long - I had to find a new but obsolete LCD to get an HD-res S-PVA at an acceptable price. I went from 2 hi-end 20" CRT's to a CRT and LCD and it would have driven me crazy fairly soon - but the 2nd CRT bit the dust too so the all-LCD switch was quicker than I'd expected! Glad I pushed for a 1920x1200 as I can now just about manage with just 1 monitor.
Rather than 2 monitors I now use 2 computers - a desktop and a laptop - and Synergy / QuickSynergy to allow 1 mouse/keyboard between them - plus it lets me cut-n-paste between them too which is huge time saver. But I don't even try to get the laptop monitor to match the desktop one, even though they are the same resolution, everything else is different.

I've used 2 monitors for well over 10 years. Couldn't just use one now.
when I eventually switch to flt screens, which is when my CRT's crap out, I'll consider getting three.

Thanks Layingback was already thinking about that.
A second Eizo would be nice but one screen is enough for me.
I'm working with a 22inch now, S-PVA but also with 1920x1200 which is just perfect, wouldn't want it differently.

Synergy is an amazing piece of code. Works across Linux and Windows, although I manily use it Linux to Linux, and I've had as many of 4 systems off 1 mouse(trackball) and keyboard at once. But the other mice and keyboards still work too.
Cutting and pasting from Windows to Linux or vice-versa just feels soooo wrong, but hey ...
I also have a simple yet complete sync program between the 2 systems.
So with a desktop and a laptop I have 2 HD-res monitors, 6 processors total, bags of memory, US and UK keyboards, and an always-on on-line backup so I can take the laptop out of the office at at a moments notice and know it is up-to-date.
After 20 years I could not go back to 1 monitor, but now I'm not sure I could go back to 1 computer use either!!!

they are both calibrated the same way but they still look different.
I can imaging it's because it are 2 different type of monitors but ain't sure, could someone maybe shine some light one this?
