Hello! Another Terry!
Welcome to the forum.
Personally, I bought a cable release for my Pentax. Its cheaper, easy to extend and is not dependent on direct line of sight. Also, no batteries required. It has a button lock for time exposure as well.

Hello, and welcome to the forum!
Can you a) add your location to your profile please?
b) keep this section for saying hello, and post your questions in the main forum body in the future thanks
I have both and use them differently. My cable release is a generic one, not a Pentax one, and is quite short so is used mostly when I am doing still lifes and such. I use the remote for self portraits, or when I need to be further from the camera for any reason. The Pentax remote is very small, very neat and the batteries last forever. I got mine when I sill used an analogue camera and it is still going strong 6 years later.

I bought a cheap generic remote from China for my K100d and Samsung GX-10 for about £3, works perfectly, even used it to fire the K100 when I had it attached to my Zenit Photsniper and lens
