No, not an EXTREME MACRO image !! .... something a bit more gentle .... It was hard to avoid trying my best to capture this after she came back from a Fair and Face Painting activity.

Pentax K7, D FA28-105mm, Pentax AF-540FGZII, (on-camera flash, bounced into the near wall, with 'Flag Type' diffusser), M Camera Mode (1/20th - F8 - ISO200), P-TTL Flash Mode (+2.0 Flash Compensation) ....

And here I thought, finally, Nigel has tried bug macro

But no,
It's even better.
Savage lighting on this. Fabulous, love it.
Well composed, great model, well lit and the light falloff is bang on for me.
Good shooting. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:
I know what i like, If not always why.

Oh yes Nigel this is terrific. As you said a while ago, with flash you are in control of the lighting and this portrait shows you are firmly in control

Thanks all for your replies . No, you'll have to wait some more for any macro butterfly stuff Derek.....I have enough trouble persuading the kids to stand still long enough for sharp shots!

No skin softening here Gareth, you're right it's hardly needed for this type of image.

Thanks also Peter and Don, I'm glad you saw the photo.

Hello Nigel.
Everything about the young lady looks wonderful in this photo - her expression and those big eyes, the light/shadow, skin tones, hair colour, and level of detail. However, sorry for adding a negative point, but I do find the odd texture in the background to be quite distracting.

Cheers.

Agree with MrB! The young lady looks beautiful. But I would change the background. I am not proof, only opinion

It's a good opinion! Thanks Philip and ClaudiaM, I was in two minds with the background. It is actually curtains with bright sun shining through. I used a rather long exposure in the dim room (1/20th) in order to bring in some ambient light to fill in on the off-side, and consequently got that sun pattern. It's a quick levels fix, so I'll do that later and post the result.

I'm glad you saw the photo .

I've taken the suggestion from Philip and made a levels layer adjustment to bring the black point up on the background and remove the pattern coming through the curtains .... I like it better! Thanks Philip and Claudia for prompting the extra work .... well worth it
