Burn

I wanted to capture the heat of Doha (50 degrees C at the moment). I know the sky is burnt out, but that was the intention. My question is, does it work or not?

Jon - somewhat... The shadowed / shady parts of the street and the green foliage that is quite prominent in the foreground, are both sending messages about 'heat' that conflict with what the sun and sky are telling us.

Something more arid might provide that consistency, so that you have various elements that reinforce each other's messages?

Think this may be more to do with how the viewer sees heat than what you have betrayed in you image. I see heat as shimmer and distortion you see it as colour. Strange to me the image portrays heat but not I think as you intended, I see the cool of the green and shade and think sanctuary from the heat. So in a way, yes, you have achieved.

The structure and content of the picture are quite effective it's the rosy colour which doesn't work for me.

nice soft background, i agree with i-berg with the green foliage, maybe too green? maybe underexposed it a little bit?

Thanks for the comments! Strangely, while here I have never seen that shimmery haze you often get with high temperatures. The sky is noramlly very dust-laden, and often is a pinkish colour towards sunset, which was what I was trying to achieve here, though I used a coloured grad filter in Lightroom. I may try a different tint. The green plants were catching the last of the sun, which is why they came out so bright in places.

Funny that, was thinking that is the sort of colour you get with pollution over cities and here you are telling me that is exactly what you have in Doha.
