Just changed over to BT this morning, fibre to the cabinate is now available in our area. Has more than quadrupled my line speed.

Huh, is the upload speed only 1.6? While it's better than existing upload speeds for almost everybody, I had sort of assumed (without doing any research into it ) it would be symmetric downloads and uploads...

I have 20MB cable at home, and to be honest I will probably downgrade it soon. The bottleneck is no longer the 'last mile' but instead the web server's bandwidth. The only time I ever get the full download speed is downloading from a big IT company like Apple or Microsoft. Most other sites I'd be lucky to get 30% of my max download speed.

I know what you mean, I upgraded because it's the same price as AOL and for no other reason. Bandwidth cost's money and people are always looking to save including the big companies.

I`m on cable 20mb with Virgin and I get about 16mb on average - I have a secondary router wired in to test continuously for Ofcom and their published comparisons.

I see 30mb is in the air but I can`t talk about it at the moment.

If you want to cheer yourselves up about your crummy broadband connections try rural France. We have about 0.5mb and we're one of the lucky few to have speeds that good.

Or try rural Crete for the first few years we lived here we had no broadband at all. The phone lines too our village are to old to support it. So in 2009 we invested
in a satellite system , it works great ... jeff

It's frowned upon. And as for the Australian wine.
