That's tough!...... Is it not still under guarantee?
In any case I would expect a free repair, because you
wouldn't expect a pro lens to break like that

Ouch! That is one nasty crack. Unfortunately it looks expensive - even though the internals still works, I expect they will have to rebuild the lens completely. When they did that to my 12-24 recently the cost was about 80% of a new lens!!

Good luck!

Provided the internal focusing lenses haven't shifted, maybe one or two of the small screws on the mount are slack?... Just a thought.

The screws are tight its the plastic ring between the mount and focus ring.

Here's a set of pics that might help showing how to repair the lens: link

That link came from Ricehigh's site link

This one might be a bit clearer:

It is crazy how much tech those new lenses contain! I have taken a couple of old manual lenses apart and they mostly contain air. These are stuffed!

Anyway! I thought there was an actual crack in the lens body. As this is not the case it is probably not quite as bad as I feared. Personally, I would try to take the mount (?) off and see if tightening the screws inside help, but not sure I would dare go further than that ...
And even IF that would work wouldn't it need to be calibrated anyway?

I would presume in your line of business you have decent insurance cover and I would also guess it is new for old replacement so why worry about repair?

I have used Johnsons repair service for one of my lens and they estimate free and although they take time for me they are the only ones I would use if needed in the future

In my case the repair and service were really good value worth enquiring
Hope this helps Cabstar and good luck with it
All the best

I do have insurance Mike but it has a £100 excess, so if I can get it repaired cheaper then better for me

Think I would rather pay the £100 and have a new lens with 2 years warranty.

From the looks of that it's going to be an expensive job methinks.

Insurance will repair or replace whichever is cheapest...

Yup but normally if the repair is more than 50% of the new price they just replace it.

Anyway, if you are happy to have it repaired that's all that matters
