After ignoring the first two letters (second recorded mail), a third was sent last week (again recorded mail). This plainly expressed that if no reply was forthcoming by the 15/10 the matter was going to the small claims court.
Lo and behold, Currys rang back the very same day
Today Currys have offered a payment £240, which I think will be accepted (purchase price in July 09 was £379).
A paint-staking effort, but we got there in the end.
The help and advise offered in this thread was ever so helpful and appreciated, and a big thanks to all.
