Taken today at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh during my lunchbreak. I love this little guy - his colour and markings are fantastic.

A nice candid shot, well done
This is one of our most beautiful native birds and when in full breeding plumage is an equal to many of the exotic breeds.
We do not see enough of them these days and that is a shame.

I had never even seen a bullfinch until Thursday this week. They are gorgeous wee birds and I can't wait for the better weather (and more time in my diary hopefully) to spend longer in the gardens for both the wonderful plants and the birds.

the only bullfinches i have seen where in the gardens... usually near the pagoda.

the cafe area is good for dunnocks. i've had a great tit eat seed from my hand in the gardens too. it is a great place with lots of birds.

and the squirrels are fun too... feed them seed from your hand and you can stroke their furry little tummy as they eat out of your palm!

hope you get to see more bullfinches.

Whenever I see them its cloudy and miserable and getting a decent shot with a Bigma in those conditions is a waste of time

If there's anybody in the North West not seen a bullfinch then Pennington Flash near St Helens is the place to go. There were several at the feeding station last Saturday.

This is one of my attempts

Has anyone ever seen a tree climbing moorhen?

But this is the only kingfisher we saw

Any C&C welcome

Howard

Great shots. Never seen a tree climbing moorhen before! How curious! I guess the poor thing was hungry.

a while back i was at the London Wetland Centre and heard a rustling sound in a tree. i stalked it and got the camera ready. i traced the source of the noise and looked closer... and the red beak of a moorhen popped out! i'm not sure who was more surprised.

James... have you been to Aberlady bay? Musselburgh was good for birds when i was there too.

Bullfinches are very lovely... i'll have to track some down, probably in the botanical gardens when i'm next up there in a few weeks.

Aberlady Bay is one of those placs on my "must visit" list. I'll definately get round to going some time this year. I'll add Musselburgh to the list too - thanks for the tips!
