Borage and bees

1. Borage is also known as the bee bush since its flowers are irresistible to them. We can eat them too, as it happens. They make great salad decorations.
An approaching bee faces a problem, however, from that purple pointy bit. It has to grab hold but the point shoves straight into its tummy!

2. It has to hang on upside down and get its proboscis up into the receptacles on the pointy bit's sides but, as you can see, there isn't much to hold on to.

3. The result is so fast I couldn't capture it. The bee falls off, upside down and and downwards, so out of control it looks as if the flower has violently
ejected it ! This particular bee looks odd because it is flying backwards. Having fallen off twice, It is being more careful about how to proceed.

4. They get there eventually.

Taken with a Pentax K1 and a Pentax-FA 80 - 320. My copy is a really good one and I love using it for these pseudo macro shots.

Both the *istDS and the K5 are incurably addicted to old glass

Love the story, and the images are grand, with beautiful colours, details, and focus fall-off.
