took this at warwick castle with a 1st ds comments welcome as i am still getting use to the camera

The picture's fine - good sharpness and colour and a nice tight composition on the main subject.

If I were to offer a suggestion it would be to straigten the background by rotating the image slightly. Straight lines such as the wood look better, generakky, when straight.

I'd have rotated the image so that the horizontal beams were horizontal. Maybe the contrast needs teaking with some curves to give the image some "punch", as it looks a little flat.

Is it me or is the wood background sharper than the bird....may just be th enature of the plumage.

I agree with Donut - the birds head doesn't look as sharp as the wood behind it. When taking birds or animals try to focus on the eyes. Plus what has been said about rotating it so the horizontals are horizontal. Otherwise the exposure is good - you can see most of the texture in the plumage.
