Lovely, crisp colours & v. sharp.
Is this the St. Mark's Fly, from my insect book?
(St. Mark's fly because of its emergence close to that Saint's day, 25th. April, it says.)

thanks! where's your insect book so i can check?
i don't know really, the name was suggested by a friend expert in recognizing insects.
this was taken in italy, on a mountain near ROME!

Do you have a more specific identification for this insect? he said that bibionidae is the family but he can't recognize the sub-family.
