Best attempt in poor conditions..

Taken through a glass window from the cottage where we are on holiday, 9:05pm 1600iso, 1/125th @ F4, GX-20 Sigma 100-300/F4 @ 300mm.

If I see him again is is worth going to 3200iso to get that extra stop of shutter speed, or would the additional noise kill it?

I also need to learn about his noise reduction malarky, what programs do other use to do this?

Very well done. Not the easiest of birds to get good photos of and you've done really well. I personally wouldn't attempt to use ISO3200 with wildlife, YMMV. I use Paint Shop Pro for simple NR, Neat Image when it gets a bit more difficult.

Thanks for that Jonathan. I've seen your wildlife images and they're excellent, so if 1600 is good enough for you its good enough for me.

I just used Photoshop's NR for this one, but used the advanced section and just the green channel as the background is all green and that is where the noise was.

I have my tripod setup ready to to try to bag him tonight, unfortunately he appears to come anywhere in a 2 hour timeframe, so its rather a long wait.

Pretty good I would say, especially through glass

Thats an impressive shot for through glass, mine seem to have a softness to them when I have tried.

Luckily the Parakeets dont fly away when I open the door to shoot them.

A quality shot .I use Neat image which integrates into CS3 and 4 and is superb.It has profiles for k1o/k20's iso settings.

Unfortunately he did not appear again last night!!

I had the lens hood jammed right up against the window on a sturdy tripod, and as it was quite late at night there were no reflections or glare on the glass.
I think the noise reduction blurred the background even more, and I selective sharpened the bird a little, which taken together makes it appear a little sharper than it really is.
