All I can add to this thread is the same as I have in your Dunnock topic, switch to RAW, you'll be amazed at the difference it can make.

If you are not happy using RAW, use RAW + JPG. Then you can play with the RAW version and determine for yourself if the results obtained are better than in-camera JPG conversion.

Your camera/lens combination should be capable of producing superb results.
