Bath by night...

Took a few pics of Bath by night last Friday (well 10 days ago), finally got my head to do a bit of editing...
Shot with K100D and sigma 10-20mm

Very effective pictures of Bath at night. Were they taken with your Sigma 10-20?
What software did you use for the panorama? The crescents and circuses of Bath do benefit from the panoramic view.

I just realised how weird the moon/lamp post look like on this preview!

yes it's with the new sigma 10-20mm, first session with it! and last session with my K100D!

I didn't use any software for the panorama, it's 10mm, cropped to panorama! if i was to do a proper panorama i would have left more space on the right and get the tree on the left... 10mm is already amazing though!

If I may add, I think the subject is so beautiful that the pictures can't really go wrong!!

Thanks for the information. The results with the Sigma are excellent. I have recently become more interested in wide angle photography and as my widest rectilineal lens is the Pentax 15mm limited I am interested in the wider zooms.

I have visted Bath several times and agree that it is a most photogenic city by day or night.

i like the first two pictures. love the graduated sky in the first picture, i think it matches the colour of the building, and the reflection in the second picture.

it really is an amazing subject.

i haven't had the chance to test the wide angle much yet but it's promising, there's quite a bit of distortion but i'll get used to it (i think the angle when shooting is key).

Enjoy the Kx boudou.

No 2 does it for me - rich colours, and interest from side to side. No 3 has an area in the bottom RH corner that is a bit flat and lacking interest for me. No 1 may look better at a larger size, the scale of it doesn't come across (even with the photobucket version) at this size. Little you can do about that though!

The 2nd one is lovely boudou, Great colour although perhaps a tiny bit burnt out above the rightmost arch. Still a very nice image though!

Great set - I think number 2 is my favourite. Pulteney Bridge if I'm not mistaken. I like the warm colours and the still water beneath. I know what you mean about distortion and shooting angle with the 10-20, although if you leave enough space each side it's pretty straightforward to correct with Photoshop elements or similar.

for the 3rd picture i had originally left a bit more of wall on the left side, but i had to rotate the image a bit and lost half of the wall, which makes it look a bit like it shouldn't be there.

Lovely set of images, particularly like 1 and 2, that new Sigma seems to be doing a great job. I think with the 10-20 it's more perspective than distortion. I'm surprised you didn't use the KX for these, or did you not have it at the time.

Spooky! When you took #2 & #3, you were standing about 20 yards from my back garden! But then, this is a popular spot for photographers. You took these on the same night/evening that I took my Divebombing Gulls sequence, elsewhere in this forum - though I was around the other side, on Grand Parade, for that.

You weren't up here for the Volleyball Tournament, by any chance, were you?

Anyway - on to the shots. It's strange, but I see these sights so frequently, it's hard to find them magical anymore - which is a great shame... but I really like what you did with the last two. The reflections are excellent, especially in number 2. The exposure length makes the water look so still, it's like a mirror - yet we know it's really rushing by over the weir. Your photos give it a degree of stillness and peacefulness that really is magical.

I would have to concur with thoughton that the right-hand arch is maybe a tad burned-out, but that floodlight on the right (out of shot) is very powerful, and it's extremely difficult to expose that shot correctly and still get enough detail on the opposite side of the river - so I would still say yours was a technical success.

Same goes for the view over Pulteney Weir... you captured the moon beautifully. And those of us that know the location, know you did well to get rid of the awful ugly sluice gate just out of shot on the left!

Nice set. Hope you had a nice visit to Bath while you were here, too!

Oh - just one thing... the EXIFs in your last two shots show a 'Date Taken' of 21st May, 2007, at around half-six in the morning (when it would've been much lighter, so that can't be the right time). Do you problem with your camera? It's not important, but I happened to notice it, and wondered if you knew. Maybe your camera-clock just needs resetting.

I got the Kx on Saturday i.e the next day , which is why the 3rd picture is the last shot ever taken with my beloved K100!

Neil, thanks for your comment - I was just visiting my girlfriend who lives there, she didn't enjoy the 3h session so much

As per the EXIFs, somehow the camera reset the date to 2007 awhile ago and i couldnt bother resetting it to the real time, the pictures were taken on Friday 27th of July 2010 from 9pm to 11ish I would say.
