Batch of lenses any good?

Hi,

I've been scouting around for used lenses.
Stumbled across this guy that swabbed himself into possesion of a K110D with four lenses for a watch *g*

Now he wants the sell the lot, because he prefers to use his phone for shooting(!). He doesn't know anything about the gear but I had him read as much as he could to me over the phone. As far as I could understand the kit consists of:

K110D body
Pentax 70-210mm (don't know if it's the 'A' or 'F' version)
28-80mm F3.5-5.6 Aspherical Macro HF
Sigma 35-135 f3.5-4.5
Vivitar 105

I know, I know: a lot of data missing.
Presumably the lenses all fit the K110D and hence my K10D body - but anyone has any experience with these lenses: good/mediocre/bad? (I don't care much for the body)

The asking price is about GBP 300 - but no haggling has startet yet *g*

All the missing information is critical and without the details and seeing the items I wouldn't personally want to buy.

£300 sounds way too much as well.

Pentax produced four 70-210mm lenses.

The SMCP-A and -F versions are both highly rated (though of different design).

There were also Takumar versions (no multi-coating) which, IF they differ only in the lack of coating, may be OK, but I would eschew them, personally.

If the others are of the same vintage, don't expect miracles. However, if the Vivitar is the Series One macro, it might be rather good.

Thanks John, I will have an opportunity to see and try the lenses, but I simply want to gather as much info beforehand. Regarding the price, weel as I wrote: the haggling hasn't started yet

If the 70-210 is the F version it will be worth getting hold of they can sell from 100quid and more and if the vivitar 105 is the series one as George says its a very good lens from what i have read, Its not AF though. 2 of these sold on E-bay over the last week and they went for over 150quid each.
The K110 is the same basically as the K100D but without the shake reduction.
If you can squeeze him on the price a bit more you might be on a winner.
Let us now how you go with it.

Well, I'm now the owner of:

1 pc. of SMC-F 70-210mm 4-5.6
1 pc. of B+W UV-filter 52 mm (for my 18-55mm kit lens
1 pc. of a table-top tripod (don't now the correct term - but actually needed it...the Manfrotto has got to wait )

I am still in possesion of my wrist watch but short GBP 100,-.

Thought the price a little high but the seller won me over by tossing in two Pentax K-primes: 55mm/f1.8 and 55/f2.0 that probably won't see any service with me as I recently purchased the SMC-FA 50mm/f1.4.

Oh..the Vivitar-lens I was 'baited' with turned out to be a 35-135mm zoom that didn't fit the K10D-body - somewhat disappointing when one expected to bring home a Vivitar 105mm Macro Series 1

Anyways, I'm happy now to be covered in the moderate tele-zoom area

You should be very impressed with the SMCP-F 70-210mm Zoom. It is a fine lens, due in part to it having at least one extra low dispersion (ED) element.

My only complaint would be it's weight. At 555 grams it's no lightweight.

Not a bargain at £100, but a reasonable deal. Well done.

I'm rather pleased with the purchase since the market for used Pentax equipment in Denmark isn't huge to say the least and I do appreciate the fact that I was able to see and try the lens beforehand.

You're right: the lens is no lightweight - but nor am I or my K10D
I actually expected the lens to feel heavier from what I had read, but then again: I haven't lugged it around for a whole day yet!

Actually, it's a very good deal. The filter would perhaps have cost a tenner, ditto the tripod, and you can probably sell the fifties for 40 smackers.

Net cost of excellent F lens: 40 squids.

The lens isn't that heavy. It's just that slow, modern, plastic, zooms are very light.
