Basic advice

Hi there,

I've recently bought my first DSLR, the K100D. I've not had too much of a chance to do anything with it yet, beyond playing & setting up the custom functions. It doesn't feel quite as nice in the hand as my Z-1p, especially with larger lenses, & getting used to the viewfinder will take a while, but it seems like a nice little camera, & I can't wait to try it out with various lenses.

Anyhow, while I'm fine with most aspects of the image editing process (having scanned & photoshopped many rolls of film) I'm still a bit of a novice when it comes to the basics of digital. I'd appreciate any basic advice that anyone can give me - think back to when you first went digital & think of what you'd have been grateful to have been told!

My first basic queries are these:

-How often do I need to format the card & is that best done in-camera?

-To transfer images to the computer using a card reader do I simply copy the images across into a new folder? Or can I do this from within an image editing program?

Sorry these are pretty uninteresting questions, but it's specifically these bits of digital photography I'm new to, & I want to make sure that I start off with good habits. I will be mainly shooting RAW, once I get sorted out with a RAW converter...

Thanks for any advice,

Jonathan

1) in camera formatting....frequently. I seldom erase. but shoot 400-500 images/week avg.
2)both ways work. but get in the habit of moving the images to your computer (reader recommended) and immediately burning a back-up then import to your imagin/catalogging program

silkypix will get you sorted right.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
