Avon !

I am sure someone mentioned in the forums not so long ago, that there was a certain Avon product that repelled insects!. Having been bitten on the back of my right hand a few days ago, my hand decided it was going to swell up like a small football, so if this stuff works I'm going to buy ten gallons of it. It was a good job I'm ambidextrous when it comes to lifting beer glasses

Ok Cliff my wife suffers from bites a lot here in Spain so if you can go to the pharmacist get this cream, HIDROCISDIN don't know if you will need a prescription but it works for her.

Wash your hands after using DEET - it eats plastic!

If yo can get away with Skin So Soft do so. It is good against most mozzies midges and noseeums.
don't rely on it against mosquitoes which carry malaria or the like - then you need DEET. DEET is toxic and should be used with care, and not on young children. There are different formulations of DEET - in the UK and northern Europe the lightest should be enough.

Hidrocisdin is a hydro cortisone cream - another big gun to use against the itch - doesn't stop the bite in the first place tough. Plenty of after bite creams available not involving cortisone which is a steroid.

If I do get bitten I use After Bite which is 35% Ammonia. Smells awful but works like a charm. It's an alkali so no use against alkali stings like a bee sting (I think). The alkali neutralises the acid content in most stings/bites.

I might have that the wrong way round but you get my meaning I hope.

A couple of years ago I got stung for the very first, and only, time in my (almost) 60 years by a wasp. After bite stopped all the associated itching.

The Scottish Highland midges are a real pest in the summer. And you get them in Kielder Forest, Northumberland, south of the Scottish Border too. Year ago I was told by a barman in the wilds of Wester Ross that the power linesmen working on the electricity company power lines in the Highlands use Avon Skin So Soft to repel them. So John was right.
Probably works on photographers as well as the power men.

My lady love's field crew swore by Skin So Soft. It kept various South Carolina bugs at bay!

some places and times in Canada Products like Muskol 98% deet is the only thing that works...
but when bugs aren't so bad, you gotta worry about excessive bloodloss...
I try to down enough booze to get my blood alcohol levels high enough to seriously impare their ability to fly, and hope the little f#$$kers crash.
Fired many shots. Didn't kill anything.
