Autumn Leaves and Waterfalls

Made another trip trip to the Calder Valley yesterday... first outing with the Pentax K3II, and the DA 55-300...

excellent set, not what i was expecting made it even more so. is number 4 your version of "The Scream" looking at what appears to be a face at the head of the water valley

Another great expression of what has now become your 'thing' . They're all very tight and concentrated, more so than the earlier set we saw, and a little more subdued in toning. I find myself looking for a little more sparkle at times, perhaps a white point just a little lower, and the need for a touch more room .....

But the colour tones and soft textures work very well. I love how you manage to get a splash of blue into the water without it becoming a 'cast'.

These are quite magical

A different abstract quality, draws me to them.

I love those they have a real abstract feel to them.

Number 4 is quite scary though

These are absolutely super abstracts that work so very well. I like the sub- plot that recurs in several of the images - solid sharp green and autumn coloured leaves set against the deliberately blurred water.

Thanks all for thoughts and comments on these... Joe and Steve, yes, funnily enough I did choose that particular one for the scream... not something I originally saw at the time, but afterwards on the screen when developing the shots... Nigel, yes, not sure whether it's "my" thing, but it does seem to be "a" thing, at least for the moment... no doubt the "thing" will change shortly, but am rather enjoying it at the moment... I know what you mean re "more sparkle" and "a touch more room"... have always tended to shoot wider and brighter than this, but have been experimenting recently with darkness (!) and more intimate compositions (been reading a lot of David Ward recently, who is fascinating on the subject)... the blue tends to be a function both of reflected blue sky in 3,4,6,7 and also fading light in 8, and something I've been looking to incorporate (not a colour you expect in the woodland)... David, David and Barrie, thanks for kind words... have learnt a lot from messing about with ICM, and have been trying to incorporate some of that back into more conventional territory...

These are lovely and form an interesting contrast between the ones posted by John in a different thread. I do prefer the deeper tones and higher contrasts in your images Bill, also I like the tight framing which focusses on specific elements in the scene.

I do think this latest set suffers a little from lack of detail in the darker areas, I know this is intentional, but personally I would have liked to see a little more revealed in the shadows. On the plus side, the exposure used really makes the colours zing.
