I'm going out and about with my camera this weekend weather permitting with the intention of using Auto bracketing for my first HDR.

what is the best camera program to use on my K20D is it manual, auto,av or what.

I've never done this before so advice welcome

Don't forget that there are several different Auto-bracket setting too.

You can choose 1/3 or 1/2 EV steps, you can have 3 or 5 exposures, choose the order (-0+, 0-+, 0+-, +0-) and if you want you can add in exposure compensation (over or under) to bias the bracketing.

Use Av mode unless there's a special reason to use Tv instead.

What's the best space you can use between the shots?
Around the O,7EV maybe or can you use wider without much problems?

I use M.

Set to a reasonable mid point, test. Then take as many shots as necessary (at least 7), varying from almost pure blow-out to darkness. Normally with 2-3 clicks of the wheel between each one.

ah yes, definitely not auto-bracketed, as it will vary aperture, too. Different DoFs is not good.

well I've looked on the net and found that AV is best so there is no change in DOF

But know it's snowing so I may not get out this week. But my son Has a really nice chapel so will have a go next week as they are of school this week

Hello there, As I was advised by the forum members, In user mode. I use av mode auto braket 5 shots, 2 steps apart, however you can adjust to your requirments, I then use photomatix pro to compile my image then render it as a HDR image, After this clean it up in adobe photoshop. Hope this helps

I under stand that photomatix is free to use but leaves a watermark on the image.

how big is the watermark and where is it placed

How much is photomatix to own

I use AV mode 3 shot -1, 0, +1 (purely because I handhold the shots and don't use a tripod) and then process in Photomatix.

Had a HDR shot accepted on PPG today as well

If you set the K20D to take all the shots with one push of the shutter button I have found you can hand-hold OK and use photomatix's "align features" check-box. It is safer on a tripod of course, but is an option when you are without one. I always go for five shot at 1.5EV spacing in Av.
