It is an illusion that photos are made with the camera… they are made with the eye, heart and head. Henri Cartier-Bresson
Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I bet it looks a bit different around the back though:

Lovely classic, "postcard" view. Always wanted to visit this place. Long way from the Wild West, though!

All these vintage slides, Kris. Anyone would think you were sorting out a load of old stuff after moving into a new place...
Best wishes,

Andrew

I wished you had placed the building dead centre, now the balance is quite awkward.

Interesting shot of the rear Kris! That's a fountain surrounded by some knee-high box hedging now.

English Heritage wanted to restore the garden and so we did an excavation and found the flower beds and so on. What you see now is based on the results of that dig in 1987. I keep meaning to go back and see what it looks like!

Had a quick look through my archives but I don't have a photo of that whole area. This is the best I can do

It's interesting that the half of the dig closest to the camera has straight lines through it, whereas the furthest does not? Were those perhaps ditches for drainage or irrigation pipes?

If I remember correctly, the straight lines were later land drains. The most worrying thing was the cable which runs from middle foreground which was only just under the surface in places!
