Is anyone using the K10D for astro photography?

I'm a bit cheeky really as I have the GX10 and not the K10D but there are no worthwhile forums for the camera and lets face it its not that different, just menu's and badging.

I just wondered if anyone else had tried?
I did some with my previous GX-1L but its a whole new ball game with the GX10.

No problem with you being a GX10 user - welcome.

Astronomical photography has been done with digital cameras for some time. Maybe someone here has the expertise.

Hi, I have used the K10D for astrophotography. I'm not very experienced with astrophotography, but I find the K10 certainly usable.
I took some photos of the Moon and of M42. After some stacking, I find the results okay for a newbie in astrophotography.

Sorry, no photos at the moment...

Thanks for the welcome..

I havent got out there in anger yet, mainly as I'm waiting for my pier to be fitted, but have done some lunar shots.
I really think the camera has potential for astro work and once the new mount is up and running hope to prove it.

Yes I often stack with registax, I also use photoshop for tidying things up..

M42 , (the Orion Nebula ) Soon to be admired again.

I made this photograph with the K10D and a 600 mm F 7,5 telescope (Skywatcher ED 80 Pro) on a Meade mount. The image is a stack of about 15 exposures, ranging from 10 to 60 seconds. The shot was unguided.

Multi-exposure mode in the K10D so you don't need to combine them in PP. Improved dynamic range and a lot less noise.

I think they decided 9 exposures at ISO100 was like shooting at ISO11 with ISO33 noise levels.

@ John & Tyr,

Thanks for your comments.

The Multi Exposure could be a real benefit here, though the problem will be the accurate tracking so that stars remain points of light instead of becoming tracks. But nonetheless, it is worth trying, and I think I'll try it first with stills or landscapes.
