Asahi Photo or Johnsons-Photopia?

I have a DA 17-70 which back focuses more than the K-5 adjustment allows.

The repair/adjustment options available to me seem to be:

- Take it to Asahi Photo (they're quite close to me), who have quoted me "about £60", although they can't tell for certain if it can be fixed until they get it open

- Send it to Johnsons-Photopia via SRS

SRS's legendary service makes the latter option attractive, but the closeness and good reputation of the former makes it too close to call - I've never had anything fixed before, so I have no experience to base it on.

Any thoughts/views/experiences?

Don't you get 20% discount from Johnsons if you are a PU member?

I know you aren't but I would imagine it's a free membership at best.
I sent my K-5 to them and I must admit I had no issues with them at all.

How old is the 17-70? surely if it's within the warranty period it should be remedied for free....

As for Asahi Photo - I've had my Z-1 and Z-1p serviced there recently, may well be worth going down there just to see as they are in your neck of the woods - 2.5 miles away for me. Pramath might be able to do a quick inspection and let you know what the status is....

It's in mint condition to look at, and it's not at all bad stopped down. I only noticed when I started taking some wide open shots and got some OOF-ness that made me look a bit closer.

For the record, I've no reason to think there was anything other than the most impeccable good faith in the transaction by which I came by it.

Thanks Chris- I was the seller in question- it was bought as part of a bundle by myself, and it seemed absolutely fine in the testing that I'd performed (that being simply using it on a couple of outings).

I decided to let it go in favor of a Sigma 30mm f1.4 prime (ultimately purchased from another member, Arno, which I am very happy with).

As Chris is happy with the lens in all other regards, we've agreed to split the cost of a calibration.

For what it's worth Chris, I personally would be inclined to give Asahi Photo a try, as given their proximity I'd expect you to have a quicker turnaround, but I have no experience of either in this context. SRS have behaved impeccably in all my dealings with them, so I would have no concerns going through them either.

The only risk is the temptations of the open day if you do go to visit!

Quick update on this... I took the 17-70 to Asahi, and sadly, the chap said there was nothing he could do with it.

So Johnson's it is - can someone confirm that the PUP discount applies to repairs sent in via them?
