Apple Aperature...

Aperture states support for the Pentax D, DL and DS, not the K series. Apple recommends a 'high-end' computer spec, loads of RAM and a decent graphics card for Aperture to run. But there is a 30 day free trial, so you can download it for a try-out.

I was using it... until I got my K10D, there's no support for this camera yet.
It's a great program and it's gonna grow with more features.
It's very detailed, so most people who only try it out find it slow, but theres a lot of things one needs to do to setup the workflow to work for them personally, and a lot of settings come turned on in default wihich can be shut off for increased speed.
It's more than just RAW processing, with excellent organizing features for all you photos and meta data info tools.
I used ACR for a long time and then switched to Aperture... it seemed complicated but I kept reading about it and learned a few tricks and tips. I was used to using fast, broad adjustments on ACR so when I tried Aperture I realized I couldn't use such a heavy hand in making adjustments as it's very detailed in many ways and requires fine tuned adjustments.
ACR seems very basic compared to this now.
All I can say is dont get it unless you are willing to learn what it can do, it's certainly not your average imaging program.

Adobe's take on RAW is as the K10D has a facility to use DNG format then they have not developed a PEF converter.
As far as I am aware Aperarure should also read DNG.

Aperture only supports DNGs created by cameras in their currently supported list.As far as I am aware Aperarure should also read DNG.
Why? I have no idea... but I was disappointed to find out.
So they HAVE to add support for both the PEF and DNG

You're quite rignt it won't accept the DNG file straight out of the camera.
Thier tech support says
DNG files must be generated by the Adobe DNG Converter, with the "Convert to Linear Image" option turned off,
Then if you import the the DNG file it will read it
The Apple version is free at

I am a Pentax user of many years, and eagerly awaiting the delivery of my K3. I have been successfully importing my PEF files into Aperture for a number of years via my K20 and K5, however I understand Apple isn't supporting the K3 yet.
I wonder if this is true? I understand Lightroom does, but I don't really want to change my work flow if I don't have too. The other idea is try shooting DNG and seeing if that works?

BAJ, you're replying to a seven year old thread

Aperture doesn't currently support K3 DNG files either, I posted a workaround in a thread about this a few weeks ago.

Aurora,
ON
I am looking to find out how users like it compared to say Capture One, Adobe Camera Raw, or Rawshooter?
As a side note, if there is anyone who can comment specifically on the compatibility with the new Pentax K10, K100, or K110 DSLRs's that would be great!
Thanks,
Steve.
