you don't have to be mad to post here

Went over to SRS today for a play and a possible purchase, and whilst the quality was definately there, the purple fringing did seem to be excessive in a couple of the test shots i took.
For once, I left without buying anything!
I know the conditions were not very good, but how much of a problem is this for those that have bought it?

I'm looking at this lens, too, I have the DA*50-135 F2.8 and FA*300 F4.5 and thought the DA*200 F2.8 would be a good complement. At the price, though, I am put off by all the reports of purple fringes. Has Pentax made a mistake with this lens? Perhaps they should have redesigned it rather than copied the optics on the FA*200 F2.8?

I've had this lens for just under 2 weeks - not done a lot with it yet, but popped up to Slimbridge last Saturday to give it a whirl...
All pictures taken on K20D RAW+JPG but these are taken from the JPGs with no processing except to resize, the crops are taken from the full size pictures.

Finally as folk are interested in the purple fringing I took some pigs of the TV aerial to see what I got - Shot RAW+JPG so these are the same picture just in different formats
first from JPG

then PS CS2 raw conversion - no changes to Photoshop defaults

My copy seems to have little purple fringing and that which there is can be removed by a small change to the fringing sliders.
All in all I am happy with the lens.

PS as suggested before this lens gives an image circle that will cover 35mm film - I put it on one of my LXs and theres no sign of viginetting.
