Anyone ever take a K-5 or K-7 apart?

Hi,
I wouldn't do this but just wondering if anyone has done it? If so was it easy etc.?
Instructions on taking it apart here.

Cheers,
Pa.

Trap a wire, crease a seal and you've created more problems that you had to start with.

I wouldn't dream of doing this, back to JPS for my cameras if there's a problem.
Best regards, John

That's what I was thinking too. Also mightn't be 100% waterproof if not sealed back properly (I know it's just a matter of turning screws but mightn't be as tight).

Would like to take apart a dead/broken one to see it's insides. But it can wait until then.

My policy on this is I never dismantle anything I don't know how to re-assemble unless

1. it is beyond repair anyway and otherwise going in the bin, ie I have nothing to lose

2. actually thinking about it, there is no 2.
you don't have to be mad to post here

but it does help

I have no need to attempt this. But look like decent instructions to have a go.

I wouldn't even consider it - I've seen inside a K-x and that was scarily complex; I can imagine the K-5 would be even more so and the chances of getting it back together properly would be slim.

There's nothing scary about dismantling equipment. Just keep a spare coffee mug to put the little screws in and write down any steps you're likely to forget.

In this day and age there's online guides anyway.

Are those the screws (and parts) you have left over after you have put the camera back together?

Just did an AF adjustment some time ago, put a post about it to the other site: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/maintenance-repair-articles/234506-auto-focus...

About the weather sealing.. in my opinion, the sealing is quite simple, really. Just tight seams in body panels plus some rubber foam tape. The tape seems quite resistant to dis- and re-assembly. From the cameras I have taken apart, Pentax actually seems quite serviceable

IF you ever take something apart with very small components, it is a good idea to work inside a smallish, tight box - for instance from a pair of shoes.

Avoids wasting time crawling on carpet looking for miniscule screws....

Or a old egg box - 12 eggs = 12 compartments!
K-3 II, K-3 and a K-70 from SRS (having now relegated the K-30 /"K-50" to a backup body), & some Sigma and Pentax lenses (and a lot of old 35mm gear!)
