Any problem putting AF540 on old-style shoe?

I would be tempted to put some insulation on the metal part of the shoe to avoid any possible problems with shorting the info pins.

You will need to put insulation. A piece of 35mm film seems to do the trick I would be tempted to put some insulation on the metal part of the shoe to avoid any possible problems with shorting the info pins.
Even if you use the 5P connector on the side of the AF540, any shorts on the flash's hotshoe will scupper the communication between camera and flash.
I hacked an old Pentax 4P grip - drilled and filed out the 5th hole (so it wouldn't touch) and also drilled out the little locking hole in the grip (the AF540 has a small pin that descends when you tighten the locking nut).
EDIT: If you use wireless flash from the pop-up on the camera, then there doesn't appear to be any issues with shorting on the hotshoe AFAIK. It's only when the flash is tethered to the camera that things can go awry.
Have fun!

Thanks guys. I was scratching my head, thinking, what could I get in there easily... and you've answered that too.You will need to put insulation. A piece of 35mm film seems to do the trick
I can cut a bit off the end of one of the many hundreds of neg strips I still haven't scanned

The rule is that you can use older Pentax flashes on newer bodies, but not vice-versa (without modification).
As Matt says, a bit of old film makes a good insulator. Who said film was dead?

No one within earshot of Peter Elgar, if they have any sense!
especially if they've seen the pics he produces with it.

The shoe on the top looks like this:
Should I have any concerns about putting an AF540 (well, the Samsung version) in it?
