Any K5 setup tips for a new owner?

I think it's all pretty straightforward. Changing the setting from Bright to Natural seems like a good plan, as is putting +1 sharpening in. Otherwise, it's all pretty fine at default settings.
Don't forget to change the power auto off timing and things like that, if you want to. A quick run through the custom functions might reveal some alterations that you want to make.

for JPG or RAW, if you only shoot raw your settings for JPG can be set so that they match the unedited RAW image better.

Thanks for the replies but I'm ok with the settings you mention...my post was more about K5 specific functions such as highlight clipping/noise reduction etc

But if you shoot RAW those settings don't effect the actually image so the only reason why you should brother is so the preview on the camera match the actually RAW image better because the camera use the JPG file in the RAW as the preview.

I thought that some settings, noise reduction for example, were actually applied to the raw file - I'm just working my way through the manual anywaysimonkit wrote:

ok - having had a look through the manual I can be a bit more specific with my questions...
Slow shutter speed noise reduction - do you now turn NR off or still keep it set?
High Iso noise reduction- I've read that this may affect RAW output? Either way, which settings do you use?
HDR capture- something I've never really looked at but wondered if anyone uses it on the K5?
Lens correction- I currently use PTlens in photoshop but maybe as it's designed by Pentax this is more effective, anyone compared both?
Thanks
