Another one with a k-m/k2000
I would suggest you set the highest quality JPEG settings and then try everything on the camera. Shoot lots of images, enjoy the process and share a few with us here.
You've got a great kit that should keep you very busy for a while. Later on you might decide on more lenses for specific purposes (such as a Macro lens) but for now just have fun.
I agree with John, there' nothing like playing with a camera to learn what it will do.
I have a K200d and seldom use the scene modes, although the scenery one is handy.
K110+DA40, K200+DA35, K3 and a bag of lenses, bodies and other bits.
Mustn't forget the Zenits, or folders, or...
PPG entries.

Also, wondered whether folks have found that the "AutoPict" and Scene automatic things best avoided, perhaps because they overprocess the results
I dont think the auto modes will apply any differing processes to an image, AFAIK* the auto modes will simply select the most suitable aperture and shutter speed etc and not make any adjustments to colour, contrast, sharpness setting etc etc.....though I could be wrong.
For the moment I would suggest leaving setting like colour and sharpness at their default.
PS: sorry AFAIK (As Far As I Know) in case your not be into forum abbreviation yet

Got a k-m with the 18-55 and 50-200 lenses. My first digital slr, though I had conventional film ones a while ago. Looking forward to getting to grips with it very much.
Just wondered whether they are any stock settings pre-set on the k-m that are better changed like jpeg parameters, saturation, sharpening levels, etc? Also, wondered whether folks have found that the "AutoPict" and Scene automatic things best avoided, perhaps because they overprocess the results, or are they pretty useful?
