Given the range required I guess you also used the 1.4x TC. It looks to be a stunning combination.
Whatever it is, these images are really well taken. The 1st and 3rd are special.

Nah. The quality is too good for that. It's the harder to find 'SMC Pentax-A' variant 28-80. (He doesn't do common lenses).

The points go to Haris this time - it's the Pentax A*300mm f2.8 - no converter. I was actually sitting in a deck chair (taking a rest from carrying the White Monster round the garden) when I saw some of these feathered friends stripping the buds of the branches just yards away. The lighting was gently backlit and glowing through the leaves - so it all just fell into place!

I looked at the Buy it Now prices for A series 2.8/100s this evening and nearly fell off my chair! The Primotar arrived today. .... I have to send it back as it has a sticky iris and that can be fatal for a Meyer lens!
