Another Face from the Street

I met this guy yesterday (24/08/09), on my way home through the streets of Whitechapel, London. This will be another additional portrait that will coincide with my End Homelessnes Now Project.

I manipulated the colour in this a little.

Good portrait, Paul. I like the way that the logo on his shirt looks like a tatoo and the blue of his eyes is the same colour as the ink.

Thanks a lot, Ken.

I know its a challenge to see beyond his tattoos...
But there is a little more goin' on in this photo. Of course the tattoos dominate his face but there is an analogy between his tattoos and the embroidered badge on his shirt, so after all it all jus' amounts to a form of decoration, really.

I'm happy you spotted this analogy, cheers.

Seeing beyond the tattoos...

I knew two men who always wore long sleeved shirts, my grandfather was one of them, they always believed their careers had been blighted by getting tattoos in their teens.

I wonder what will happen to all the tattooed people today when it goes out of fashion again?

I also wonder how much of the homeless guy's problem is down to peoples perception of him because of the tattoos.

I should have made myself clearer, I wasn't referring to Paul's subject at all, just a generalisation, really.

No It's me that should have been more general. I really meant Paul's subject would not be the only person subject to predudice based on how they look.

At the risk of hijacking Paul's thread, I was talking to an anaesthitist doctor friend and she told me that they wont give pregnant women an epidural if they have a tattoo on the small of their back because of the risk of introducing ink into the spinal fluid.
