The first one with wide frame and pastel shades is superb !! Even composition wise also it is perfect.

'A couple more snaps' - ahem, some snaps. Both excellent images. I agree with Rajhans' comment. There again, I do so like mono...

They both work for me because the concepts are so different. To me, the first is about the contrast between the vast, hard, dominating building and the soft frailty of the small (in the frame!) person and plant. The second is about a solitary person lost in thought while the wall adds to a sense of being alone. I think you've done the colour/mono the right way round, too. It probably wouldn't work as well for me if the first were mono and the second colour - but I could be wrong!

I like the first one very much - well executed and slightly mysterious.

I much prefer the composition of the first one, but I do rather like monochrome. So I've taken the liberty of making a monochrome version (based on luminance and slightly adjusted the gamma) of the first one to see what I thought, it looks very good but I still rather like your colour version.

Either of these two would stand up as an excellent photograph, the comments about the pastel colours do convey the success of the colour image but it does feel as though monochrome would be my natural leaning - the addition of the first image mono converted actually brings out the best of it for me

I could not choose between colour and mono in this case and did achieve something very similar to @MikeInDevon's monochrome version but still preferred colour for the first shot.

A bit of background....
We saw an old building whilst on our way to the cathedral and decided to investigate. Once inside, I was marvelling at the architecture and ceiling when my better half suggested that this is the sort of thing I normally like to photograph. Couldn't believe my luck at what I considered to be almost perfect composition, framing and lighting so quickly got off a few shots without much time to consider settings etc in case the subject moved and/or saw me (hence my reference to snaps).
Very happy with the results even if they are not totally sharp

Your better half is a true gem, to be treasured. Having a better half who doesn't regard your hanging around to take photos as a nuisance to be, at best, grudgingly tolerated must be a joy for you.

especially when i get "well go on then, f*** off and take some photos" . But since that is what we had set out to do, it is just another term of endearment! (right?)

The first one for me, the lovely soft colours and you get a sense of the height and grandure of the building.
