My sister in law was looking to buy a DSLR about the same time I was moving from Nikon to Pentax and had just received my first K5 - which had the sensor stain. Despite this, I recommended her a K-r. She was looking at Nikon and Canon only. Anyway she took my suggestion on board and got herself a K-r with the 18-55 II kit lens.

She is a complete beginner and was happy when she received the camera. She booked into a photography course.

This morning I receive a text saying I was right about Pentax. Turns out the course was the last weekend. They had small "assignments" during the course and she got everything right the first time while fellow owners of Canikons had at least 2/3 attempts!

As happy as I am with Pentax DSLRs I think this says more about the abilities of your sister-in-law than the brand of camera she's using - glad she's enjoying herself though

Overall the Pentax are quite easy to understand and it's quite easy to find something so in that aspect she has a slight head start but indeed it says more about here then the camera. She's a natural maybe?
