Annoying ads

I am starting to get banner ads between topics as well as the stuff on the right ; as a result the forum itself is reduced to less than half the screen area. Oddly the banners disappear when I log in. However it is really annoying and is more excessive than on other sites and would put me off joining if not already a member. Bizarrely the ads are linked to my searches on google even though I use safari for this site, and I keep changing my preferences in google to non-specific ads.

The obvious answer is to log in and stay logged in. Then you don't need to log in every time you visit the forum.

Google Ads are just trying to show you adverts that are connected with your interests. There are probably Ad Blockers you could use, but some have suggested they may not be a great idea in themselves.
Best regards, John

On my desktop computer the adblocker works fine but not on my ipad. It just struck me it would be offputting to non members.

I use the Opera web browser on a Windows PC. The very first item in the Settings menu is "Block Ads". When that is selected, it appears to work quite effectively.

Cheers.

Another issue is that my discreet searches on google result in giveaway ads for all to see!

I am not to bothered about ads. but I welcomed one today. It was a one from Amazon which showed a micro wave I purchased from John Lewis four weeks ago over forty pounds cheaper. I checked JL and it had also been reduced, a quick phone call and they refunded the difference.

I find adverts as annoying as anyone (maybe should look into an ad blocker after all...) but I suppose at least they're probably helping to keep the site running!
