Nice to see these pictures.
The boat-lift has recently been restored, which is why it is in such fine condition for something that was erected in 1875. Sadly I have never used it, though the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is another extraordinary piece of canal engineering, and I have done that a couple of times.
I am a bit surprised we don't see more canal pictures here. Anybody needing some inspiration could do worse than head for the nearest canal.
And if you are in Scotland, the Falkirk Wheel is the supreme example of British 20th C. engineering, bar none. It's a different take on the same problem.

Very interesting images Stuey, I have a bit of an interest in canals, only because what was a lock on the Chesterfield Canal is in our back garden, but is sadly now dry.
I've never seen the boat lift, it looks like a good place to visit.
I like your images, number 4 is may favourite.
Regards
David

Thanks for the comments guys
I have to admit to liking a bit of canal photography myself as my flickr page gives away
I am a bit spoilt where I live, I can walk to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct in less than 15 minutes - less than 10 if I am heading to the Telford Inn right by it
I liked this visit as there was no time for planning so it was a case of turn up and get on with it
Again thanks for the comments guys
Cheers

Had a day out with the family yesterday, I was not aware of where we were going (I like surprises) the Anderton Boat Lift turned out to be a nice surprise
Anyhow, I thought I would inlcude a few from the boat lift then our wander around the area afterwards.
C&C welcome particularly as this will have been done so often before ideas for improvement are welcome
There are more on flickr if you want to look at them
Cheers
Stu.
