An actual (fairly minor) K10D gripe.

But how often do you really want to view an image on its side? I misunderstood what you were getting at because I couldn't imagine why you would want to correct the orientation of the picture (by switching rotation ON), and then decide to view it the "wrong" way after all.
Well, the particular example happened to be a shot of some upside down writing, and I wanted to check the sharpness.

So having shot it, I wanted to zoom in digitally and read it without turning the camera upside down. I could rotate it but not zoom it, since the "press Ok" solution, obvious in retrospect, hadn't occurred to me.

Anyway, to answer your question, not often. As I said, now that I know you can rotate and then zoom, it's a "very minor gripe".

And is it really a fault, however minor, that the camera doesn't permit this without pressing the OK button?
Well if, as someone has said, the jpeg degrades a bit for every saved rotation, then I'd argue, clearly yes.

But I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

this is only true of the JPG, I'm pretty sure if you're shooting RAW it wont matter, although the embedded JPG will have to either be rotated or re-generated.
