....and once you've recovered from drooling over the macro capabilities, you might even find that it's a very capable longer focus 200mm lens

Tough Crowd. Never been one for birds or insects interestingly enough. Have been known to take a pic or two of a watch movement, small enough?

Yep, that's small enough. 'Little thingies' don't have to be, or have once been, alive. I've been known to photograph details of dried paint - and believe it or not, some of the tough crowd that hang around here actually liked it!Have been known to take a pic or two of a watch movement, small enough?

Ah, you've taken the first step onto a slippery slope... I remember taking that first step. Then the second step. Then another ... And now there are drawers and boxes full of macro kit for getting more magnification, greater stability, higher accuracy etc. etc. Stop while you still have the chance (unless you enjoy going down slippery slopes)!!!I've a focussing rail on order

It's a funny lens in that it seems to be difficult to control. I am pretty stable with the DFA*'s (50, 85, 70-200) but this one seems to have me swaying about the place The only thing I don't have is a rail, I have the extenders, the TC, the macro flash and a reasonable Tri-pod (Which I rarely use) so in for a penny, in for a pound.
I suspect most of my images will be like this and not bug headshots

You'll find the macro focus rail makes life so much easier - the Manfrotto is particularly goo IMO, shame you've ordered one - I have a spare that I was going to list
