Alternatives to Lee foundation holders?

So I'm taking the plunge as there are two things I now need to sort out A) a better tripod and B) my filters.

Having a range of screw in and slot in filters means that I cannot use a ND grad say with a C-PL so I'm moving everything over to 100mm filters. 100mm as 85mm filters (Cokin P) will vignette on the Sigma 10-20mm.

Before looking at the filters I've been looking at the holders EEK! The Lee system is sooooo expensive!

On the other end of the price range there is a Zomei that with the 82mm adaptor ring comes in at £13.49

Moving up there is the Cokin Z-Pro holder that's circa £50 new, haven't managed to locate a used one or the Kood Pro which I've found for £37.49 minus the adaptor ring.

Crazy prices considering the P size can be bought for well under a tenner!

Anyone have any experiences with the Kood, Cokin Z-Pro or Zomei?

Thanks

these are good and not as expensive as Lee. the early ones gave a slight blue cast which was very easy to get rid of not like Cokin which , if stacked, gave a horrible magenta that was a pain to remove. the later ones do not have this , i used a 10 stopper of theirs and that had no cast at all. i believe David Storm uses or used these and he seemed happy with them. here is a link to their site

From my experience Joe is right - the HiTechs are probably the next best thing to Lee, and Lee are certainly expensive - but in the long run if you are going to use filters quite a lot then Lee will actually be one of the best investments you can make.

Thanks both

What holders are you using for the HiTech filters?

When I was using Hi-Tech I went with their own holder - but now I've switched to the Lee Holder + ND Grads.

i had the Cokin holder. I don't use any ND grads now as i just could not get on with them, i only use full 10 stop filters now and then not that often . i find it easier to shoot multiple exposures and blend together using Photomatix

Cheep Chinese holder here with Hitech grads. The holder feels way more sturdy than my old Cokin holder. It came with all ring sizes you could ever need. While I can understand filters being pricey, I refuse to pay a crazy sum for a piece of molded plastic/metal. It may sound awkward, but I looked for filters to fit the holder; not the other way around. I am also a fan of stacking multiple exposures rather then using filters; for the convenience of it. That said, there are some situations, where you just need one.

I use Hitech hard grad filters and holder. If you stack the filters you can get a colour cast. I often do. The hard grad filters are big enough to cover the whole frame, so I sometimes use one across the whole image and then one for the sky only. Can then give a bit of a pinky/purple tinge. Looks ok at sunrise or sunset though, and can be corrected.

I was looking for a cheap 82mm ring adapter for my Sigma 24-70. I came across Zomei. Cheap as chips including the filter holder. The reviews though said the filter holder is a bad fit for filters. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00Q1JVPGW/ref=twister_B00SOCOZXE?_encoding=UTF8&psc...

Thanks all

I've put up a wanted post in the classifieds in case I can tempt someone to sell one, otherwise I'll explore buying new

I also use the Sigma 10-20 and Cokin P filters. And experienced the same vignetting problem. Im an infrequent filter user. So I didnt want to pay the Lee price.. I thought. Surely at the end of the day the holder only holds.. So I purchased this

You also need a filter adapter ring

Been using the combination now six months and happy so far... But im sure the landscape guys here have far more experience..

£16 for the holder, a 77mm adaptor and a 82mm. Worth taking a punt so I can save pennies for the filters. Ordered it! Will give a review when it all arrives and as it's Amazon if it's not great I can return it
